Main Entry: A dramatic fabric tensile
structure welcomes visitors to the zoo. The entrance
opens onto a plaza where you can dine, visit the gift
shop, watch your kids play in the water, and wait for
friends in the shade.
Group
Entry: Groups are admitted through the World
of Adaptation directly to the Education Center for
a personalized introduction to the zoo and other informational
programs.

South
America
A deep jungle is the home of jaguars, capybaras, and bears.
Iguanas, piranhas, poison dart frogs and boas are a few
of the smaller jungle creatures you might find. |
|
World
of Adaptation
Truly wondrous stories are told at the zoo’s educational
center. Exhibits illustrate how animals and humans adapt to
changing habitats. (For example: showing how the zoo’s
polar bear lives in the desert.) |
Africa
Trails lead to elephants, rhinos, giraffes, and zebras. Underwater
viewing lets you see hippos as well as African fish. The African
lodge holds a small theater hosting programs on land use, conservation
and adaptation. |
Entertainment
Grove
This is the place to picnic on the grass, listen to a concert,
see a play or enjoy the many special events planned for the
future. |
South
East Asia
A bamboo grove is home to tigers and other forest creatures.
Asian otters and a colony of gibbons are nearby. |
Australia
A eucalyptus forest with koala and kookaburras yields to grasslands
where you may see gray kangaroo, parrots and emu. |
Schedule
and Budget
Implementation
of the master plan is underway with the construction of the
zoo's new main entrance. Completion of the entire master plan
is targeted for 2015. It is envisioned to take place in three
stages.
Although the city is expected to provide some of the funding,
this multi-million dollar effort will require significant
commitments from the community, private business partners,
and the Tucson Zoological Society.
