Annual Gifts
You may make a one time or annual contribution for Reid Park Zoo. Your gift to the general fund helps enhance the value of Reid Park Zoo through a variety of education programs, special events, animal enrichment, and conservation programs. Capital Campaign Gift
A comprehensive campaign is underway to finish funding the next phase of the Zoo’s Master Plan. The current funding for the Capital Campaign will help build Expedition Tanzania. This expansion of the Africa area of the Zoo will provide additional space for African species, including a developed barn and 3 acre exhibit for African elephants. We are also always willing to work with you to create a custom opportunity to recognize your loved one through sculpture, zoo exhibits, or other naming opportunities.
Planned Gifts
The majority of planned gifts are made in bequests (including the Zoo in your will or trust). Bequests ensure that future generations will have the opportunity to love Reid Park Zoo as much as you do.
A bequest is a provision in your will or living trust that directs a portion of your estate to a named person or charity, such as the Reid Park Zoological Society. You may bequeath a specific asset, a dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder of your estate after all other gifts have been distributed.
You may choose how the funds from your bequest gift will be utilized by the Reid Park Zoological Society. The following is suggested testamentary language depending on the type of gift you desire:
Unrestricted Gift
“…(specific assets, specific amount, remainder or percentage of estate) to the Reid Park Zoological Society, an Arizona nonprofit corporation, Tucson, Arizona, to be used as determined by the Reid Park Zoological Society Board of Directors.”
Restricted Gift
“…(specific assets, specific amount, remainder or percentage of estate) to the Reid Park Zoological Society, an Arizona nonprofit corporation, Tucson, Arizona. These monies shall be used for _________.”
Considering a gift of all or part of your retirement account to charity?
Retirement plan assets are often ideal candidates for a charitable bequest because they generate “income in respect of a decedent”. In simplified terms, income in respect of a decedent (“IRD”) is an inherited payment that would have been taxable income to the decedent had he or she received it before death. If the retirement plan directs plan proceeds to a charitable organization, neither the donor’s estate nor heirs will realize income from the plan; rather, the income will be realized by the tax-exempt recipient organization. Thus, no tax will be paid in the year of distribution.
The process of naming a charitable organization is as easy as a phone call away. Contact your plan administrator that holds your retirement account assets. Let them know you would like to name the Reid Park Zoological Society as the beneficiary of all or part of your retirement account.
