Giraffe Encounter
Giraffe Encounters take place every day from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the giraffe exhibit. On Saturdays and Sundays, there is an additional Giraffe Encounter from 2:00-2:30pm. You may arrive any time during this period; however, closing time may change in inclement weather, or if the giraffes’ daily feeding limit is reached.
The reduced rate for school groups is $1 per person. Please give your school name and payment to the Giraffe Encounter Staff. Regular school admission rates apply to enter the Zoo.
No registration is necessary. Payment will be accepted by Giraffe Encounter staff at the time of feeding. Cash or check only. Sorry, we cannot accept purchase orders or process Giraffe
Encounter payment at the admission window.
All Giraffe Encounter proceeds benefit Zoo conservation projects & staff development.
Giraffe Feeding Guidelines
- Please share the following guidelines with our class before they participate in the giraffe feeding. For safety reasons, students who choose not to follow these guidelines will not be
allowed to participate. - The giraffes will use their long tongue to gently take the food from your hand. Teasing the giraffes with the food is not allowed.
- Giraffes prefer not to be touched. Please enjoy feeding them and taking pictures with them instead of reaching out to touch them.
- Good listening skills are needed to learn about the giraffes from the zoo keeper on the giraffe encounter platform. The keeper will also provide special safety instructions if necessary.
