Teacher Menu
Self-Guided
Tour
$0.50 per person
At least 1 chaperone mandatory for each 10 students
Any full-time
accredited school or home school group can make reservations to
use the zoo as an inexpensive resource to compliment school curriculum.
Reid Park Zoo invites up to 500 school children per day to enter
at the discounted admission rate of $0.50 per person (includes students
and chaperones).
To
receive this discounted rate, reservations must be made at least
30 days in advance by mail or fax. You may print a reservation
form or call 791-4760 and our reservation staff
will be happy to mail one to you. For any questions regarding
your reservation, please call 791-4760.
Because
space is available on a first come, first serve basis, please
plan your visit as early as possible. Keep in mind that March,
April, and May are the zoo's busiest months. September, October,
and November are our most underutilized months, and the weather
is great!

you. Please state your grade when calling. We request that only
one packet be sent per school, you may make as many additional
copies as needed.

to use to provide an in depth self-guided zoo tour for students.
Bio Bag topics include: animal adaptations and/or animal diets.
Please call 791-3204 x 17 for more information or to reserve a
bio bag for your next zoo trip.

available to conduct tours, labs and animal encounters for groups of up
to 30 people at a time.

If
your group is larger, we can offer back-to-back or simultaneous
programs, depending on staff availability.
We prefer to meet with or speak to teachers prior
to the visit in order to tailor the experience to the students'
needs. We can tie into the curriculum you are working with or suggest
supplementary materials. We aim to help you meet National Science
Education Standards, Arizona state standards and your district's
benchmarks.
Successful topics we have addressed include endangered
species, rain forests and animal adaptations, as well as many subjects
relating to zoo operations. For example—the care and maintenance
of captive wildlife, the conservation and research projects of Reid
Park Zoo, the animal health center and quarantine, nutrition and
feeding of zoo animals, enrichment, animal behavior training or
careers working with wildlife. We will make every attempt to provide
hands-on, inquiry based activities that explore the questions posed
by your students relating to a topic.
There is not a deadline for registering for these
programs, but dates fill quickly. Additionally, because staff members
arrive at the zoo especially for your group, time is needed to arrange
for staff. Please allow as much time as possible. Call 791-3204
x17 to arrange your guided tour.
